Underwater Cultural Heritage

Awareness and advocacy for the preservation and valorization of underwater cultural heritage have been an ongoing emphasis of the lab’s work and directly inform practices in the field. Through partnerships with the Penn Cultural Heritage Center, Brock University, and other institutions, work on the submerged heritage of the Mediterranean has generated a series of workshops and conferences in the US, Canada, and Italy; various position papers on best practices and collaborative approaches to local management and community engagement for heritage in deep and shallow Mediterranean waters; and advocacy for the development and enforcement of legal regimes to protect underwater cultural heritage on a global scale.
