Umar Patel

Umar, a double major in computer science and archaeology, hails from just south of San Francisco. His interests revolve around the use of technology and mathematical techniques to learn more about archaeological processes. Recently he has been working with the lab team using 3D software to model amphoras and analyze their efficiency patterns to better understand the ancient Mediterranean economy. Other projects have included the development of simulation programs to model the movement of stones at Neolithic sites like Stonehenge and using computer vision to enhance site detection via aerial survey. He is interested in learning more about the use of natural language processing to analyze medieval manuscripts.
